PRESS RELEASE 24.05.2006

Eesti Pank Updated the Statistics on Euro-Denominated Loans

Starting from May 2006, Eesti Pank will publish more detailed information on the interest rates of euro-denominated or euro-related loans. So far the respective statistics have been published by maturity only, but now also customer groups will be included. The information is disclosed in a new table - Table 6.1.2. 'Weighted average annual interest rates of EUR denominated loans by groups of customers and maturity'. The structure of the new table is similar to that of 6.1.1., which covers kroon loans by customer groups and maturity. The data are presented retroactively, starting from January 1999.

The updated data on interest rate statistics will be published on 24 May 2006.

Euro-denominated and euro-related loans make up approximately 80% of the total volume of loans issued. Therefore, Eesti Pank considered it necessary to present to the public more detailed information on the interest rates of euro-denominated loans by both maturity and customer groups. Kroon loan and euro loans are distinguished in order to provide a more specific and integral overview of the interest rates in Estonia.

The statistics on on loan interest rates now also includes the data of the Baltic Investment Group (BIG). The data of BIG, which has been operating as a credit institution since 28 September 2005, have been added retroactively, starting from October 2005.
